The Church of the Nazarene is a Protestant Christian church in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition, tracing its roots to an anniversary date of 1908. It was founded to spread the message of scriptural holiness (Christlike living) across the lands. Today the Church of the Nazarene is located in 156 world areas.
The Church of the Nazarene is a Great Commission church. Our mission is to make Christlike disciples in the nations. We believe that God offers to everyone forgiveness, peace, joy, purpose, love, meaning in life, and the promise of heaven when life is over by entering and experiencing a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. We are called to take this message to people everywhere.
The Church of the Nazarene is also a holiness church. We believe that Christians can experience a deeper level of life in which there is victory over sin, power to witness and serve, and a richer fellowship with God, all through the infilling of the Holy Spirit.
For Cheney Church of the Nazarene, our mission is simple yet profound. We are called to be a church that is "Learning to love and serve Jesus and ALL people together."
To that end, we known that there are certain foundational beliefs and practices that must be lived out in our midst if we are to move forward in fulfilling our God-given mission. We call these our Core Values:
Core Value #1 Prayer – Luke 11:1-13
We believe that prayer is powerful and effective. We will be a church where prayer is the foundation of all that we are and all that we do.
Core Value #2 Worship – Luke 9:23-27
We believe as followers of Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit, we will live God-centered lives, worshiping God in Spirit and truth.
Core Value #3 Discipleship – 2 Peter 1:3-15
We believe we are called to be discipled and to disciple others. We will journey towards Christ-likeness by learning, serving, praying and sharing together.
Core Value #4 Unity – Ephesians 4:1-6
We believe that we will live in unity with Christ and each other by keeping in step with the Spirit, living out forgiveness, kindness, love and protecting Christ-honoring unity.
Core Value #5 Acceptance – Acts 10:1-11:18
We believe Christ accepts all people. We will follow his example and love people as they are, without agenda or pretense, welcoming every person, group and segment of society as we journey together towards Christ-likeness.
Core Value #6 Engagement – Acts 1:1-11
We believe we are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus to engage people. We will partner with God by forming loving relationships with our world—giving our time, resources, and ourselves to serving others, responding to their needs, and sharing the love of Christ.
God is at work doing mighty things as we seek to obey and fulfill the mission God has laid before us!
